What is FREEDOM ?
FREEDOM is a wireless high-speed Internet access service that is based on technology and services provided by Proxim/CISCO. The product uses spread spectrum and point-to-multipoint communications technologies, in place of the wires or fiber used to deliver conventional wired communications services.
How does FREEDOM compare with ISDN, DSL and T1 connections?
Like ISDN, DSL and T1 connectivity, the FREEDOM service is always on; there's never a busy signal. However, unlike DSL, the service speed does not diminish with distance from the Central Office. Unlike ISDN and T1 connections, which may be connected to the Public Service Telephone Network (PSTN), FREEDOM service functions like a private network IP connection.
How quickly can you get me connected ?
A FREEDOM connection can typically be established within 5-7 business days. The single greatest reason an installation may take longer is in gaining permission to, and installing the antenna on the roof of the property when required (expected in less than 30% of installations).
Is the service secure?
Yes, very secure. Underlying the FREEDOM connection is military-grade communication technology. Additionally, the service is protected by authentication, proprietary signal processing techniques, and directional antennas which it make both very difficult to detect the radio frequency transmissions, and very difficult to exploit. While no communications network is absolutely secure, the 'work-factor' required to exploit data sent over the Proxim/CISCO network is at least as high as that for wired and satellite telecommunications networks. If desired, the end-user can achieve an even levels of security by introducing encryption at the application layer.
Is it safe?
Absolutely, the Proxim/CISCO transceiver actually emits less power than a cellular telephone (sub 1 watt).
Is the service affected by weather conditions?
No. Unlike some other wireless products that operate in bands that are affected by weather, the FREEDOM service is unaffected by rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog or atmospheric conditions of any kind.
How fast is it?
Our equipment will allow up to 1100kbs transmissions and upgradeable to 5400kbps or 1000 times faster than dial-up.
Do I still have to dial in ?
No. Your Internet connection is always ON.
What do I need for this to work?
At this time, you will need a Laptop with Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT. Your Laptop should have a Pentium class processor or better (i.e., no 386s or 486s please) with at least 16 Mb of Ram (Recommended 64mb as Higher the memory, faster the access). You'll need 1 PCMCIA slot. This service can also be enabled on Desktop PC. You may require 1 free PCI slot to install PCI Wireless LAN Card. For any assistance call our Toll free No. 1600-111-375 within India
Will my TV, Radio etc. interfere with this wireless equipment?
No. Our equipment operates at all-together different frequency (2.4 GHz), far out of range of household appliances and electronics. However, microwave ovens operating at frequency of 2.4 GHz may interfere with the access if within the range of 10 ft.
What does the future hold for wireless Internet solutions?
Between 2002 and 2004, the aggregate value of wireless ecommerce or mobile commerce transactions are expected to increase from $29 million to over $20 billion. Over the same time, North America is projected to grow from 89 million wireless users to over 191 million. Users will be doing everything from buying time at parking meters to coordinating their schedules and interacting with robust internet-based applications. More than 1.4 billion handsets, PDAs, and internet appliances are expected to be equipped with wireless capabilities by 2004. The potential change is enormous. Workers will take the Internet and internet-based applications wherever they go. (Source IDC)
